SEO & Analytics

For my midterm project in Dr. Palmer’s SEO & Analytics class, the assignment was to perform a preliminary SEO analysis for the Kennesaw State University Master of Arts in Professional Writing (MAPW) website. An SEO analysis provides a company or website owner with the tools needed to improve their site’s traffic. For my analysis, I started with a competitive SERP (search engine results page) analysis which provided data and real-time information on how the MAPW program performs in Google searches. I then provided the specifics of an SEO plan that would utilize rich keywords, meta tags and descriptions, and page titles to increase traffic to the MAPW site. Lastly, I used tools and concepts (e.g., Google Trends and SERPs analyses) to recommend a rigorous SEO plan for their site. I received an A+ on this assignment.

Before I could perform an SEO analysis on KSU’s MAPW program, I had to first understand how to properly conduct this type of analysis. For this SEO mini business plan, we were tasked with using our own websites to identifying goals, strategies, objectives, and tactics for strategic thinking and planning. Per my professor Dr. Palmer, the six elements of how to conduct an SEO analysis are:

  1. Define my audience and myself
  2. Conduct a SWOT analysis; SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats)
  3. Collect intelligence on my competitors
  4. Write a job description that would attract me
  5. Define my SEO goals
  6. Define how I will implement my SEO goals

Once I completed these items, I was able to draft my SEO plan for driving traffic to my site. The report needed to be professional and visually rhetoric to demonstrate credibility. My full business plan can be read below. I received an A on this assignment.
